New Moon in Virgo – September 9, 2018; 11:01am PDT
The New Moon time is a time of new beginnings. It’s the time to initiate a new project or to set down intentions for what we desire in our lives. Knowing where the New Moon falls in relation to our birth chart helps us to focus our attention on a particular area of life. But overall, because Virgo is the sign of purification and strongly linked to nutrition and our physical body, this is a perfect time to adjust our diet so that it can be less toxic. We can also focus our attention on our homes and use this New Moon energy to detoxify our environment by cleaning out cupboards, closets, and garages. We all have an energetic connection to our ‘stuff’. If we gather too much of it, then that tie becomes stronger, denser and can ultimately become very toxic. Think hoarder! A person with this affliction can often understand logically that they need to get rid of some items, but are unable to do it emotionally. This is because of the energetic tie that has been created. The act of purging, physically and in our environment, is very cleansing and freeing. It’s as if a weight has been lifted – and it has! It’s about creating space, decluttering, and effecting ‘Feng Shui’ on our state of being so we can function more effectively in the world with clear focus and fewer distractions.
Virgo is also associated with plant and energy medicine, linking to the ancient wisdom keepers of the Earth. It is about using the natural healing of herbs and plants to help our bodies work effectively. Everything we need for good health is provided by the Earth, so use it. During the Virgo New Moon healing can come through learning to trust the instinctual wisdom of our bodies. Learn to listen to its wisdom and rhythm. Rather than letting ourselves be pulled around by the thought patterns that result from additions of various kinds, we can benefit by eating what our wise body tells us to and avoid what we instinctively know is toxic.
During this New Moon we have seven planets in Earth signs (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Mars, Saturn, Pluto, and Uranus). This puts a strong focus on the Earth and the challenges we all face regarding our changing climate and pollution. Uranus in Taurus will emphasize this over the next eight years, but this New Moon sets up the potential for specific innovative developments to emerge related to cleaning up the Earth. For our part, we can take time during this Virgo New Moon to stand in nature. Listen to the birds, hug a few trees. If we see trash lying around, pick it up. Give thanks for what the Earth provides for us. She loves us and wants us to love her back.
