This is not your run-of-the-mill Full Moon. This Moon closely conjuncts Uranus in Taurus, opposes the Sun and Venus in Scorpio, and squares the Leo/Scorpio nodal axis − creating a Grand Cross in fixed signs. Combined, this energy brings up issues of relationship vs individuality and the choice of continuing unconscious behavior that is stuck in the past or stepping into our inner-revolutionary in order to embrace a new way of interacting. Always a culmination of something that was begun earlier, the energy of this Full Moon stirs us at our karmic roots, bringing to the surface wounds that are very deeply entrenched. With the energy in fixed signs, we are dealing with the parts of ourselves that are the most resistant to change, the parts that have allowed us to become complacent in the status quo and reluctant to put forth the effort that change would require.
Venus, now half-way through its retrograde cycle, features prominently in this Full Moon by highlighting issues that we may have surrounding intimacy and honesty within our relationships. Scorpio is never satisfied with half-baked answers and always wants to dig into the guts of things. Venus in this sign is happy to bring up all of our unfinished relationship business and rip the scab off half-healed emotional gashes. This brings to the foreground of our consciousness issues that must be dealt with in order to truly be in relationship with another.
Uranus is fully involved with this Full Moon as well, stirring up the revolutionary side of us and reminding us that a true relationship is one in which the participants retain their autonomy rather than becoming lost in the eddy of emotional twists and turns. Uranus prompts us to question the status quo and to explore alternative ways of interacting -with ourselves and others. Venus will oppose Uranus three times this year (September 12, October 31, and November 30) reminding us that it is vital to balance our desire for relationship with our need for freedom. Healing can happen now if we can allow ourselves to risk.
