Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Cancer – January 10, 2020 at 11:21am PST

Welcome to 2020! We have turned a corner and entered a new era.
My friend and colleague, Reena Kumarasingham, is calling this the Year of Perfect Vision and I think she is right about that. With all that is happening, astrologically and otherwise, the Universe is encouraging us to see our lives clearly and to make changes if necessary. Reena is an energy healer, past life regression therapist and trainer, and fellow author. In 2012, she made a commitment to live in the new higher vibration and has just begun a special blog series providing guidance and tips on High Vibration Living in the New Consciousness. If you’re interested, you can learn more about her and what she does at her website. www.reenakumarasingham.com
I believe that what Reena is teaching is very important for us all to understand. The energy has shifted and we must find a way to thrive within this new vibration. There’s nothing bad or wrong, it’s just different and requires looking at life in a new way. Some things will need to change and the energy of January 2020, and particularly the Saturn/Pluto combination fueled by the intensity of the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse, will help us understand where those changes need to occur.

Early in the month, we have some wonderful energy when Jupiter and Mercury interact. This is great for planning, communicating, and for coming together in partnership and making pacts/agreements. It’s a good time for signing documents. During this time, we may get some insight or tips about what Jupiter’s time in Capricorn (from late December 2019 to December 2020) will be like for us. Pay attention to encounters, ideas, and experiences that come up for you during the first week of January. Each of these holds a clue, a piece of information, or may link you to a specific person who will be very helpful to you during the time Jupiter is in Capricorn – most of 2020.
Shortly after this, Mercury interacts with the South Node and we will be asked to shift our thinking, our priorities, and our perspective. This is an opportunity for us to really clarify our ‘mission statement’ for 2020 and that’s what will guide us for the year. This is a pattern breaking aspect, and gives us the opportunity to let go of old habits, thoughts, and communication patterns that no longer serve us. Have you been trying to solve a problem in a certain way and not getting the results that you want? With this energy, you will be able to shift your method or thinking and finally obtain a good result. Mercury/South Node combinations like this are great for spiritual practices; meditation, mantra.
On January 5th, Mars moved into Sagittarius. With this energy we get a boost of optimism and the awareness that possibilities are unlimited. It’s incredibly adventurous energy so this can be an exciting time with an upswing of oomph. It’s confident, outgoing, energetic, expressive, and active. A bit like a wild horse running across the plains. The caution here is to not take on too much. Don’t scatter your energy or try to do too much too quickly.
As the month progresses, the Sun and Mercury interact with Neptune in Pisces. Expect that your intuitive abilities will be activated and you may even be a bit spacy. This energy gives us an opportunity to span the gap between the ‘real’ world and Spirit. This is about creativity and spirituality. There’s a softening that comes in when the Sun is touched by Neptune. It heightens the intuition; makes us gentler, and more compassionate, but it can also make us more sensitive in general. There can even be a feeling of overwhelm and uncertainty. If you are empathic by nature, be sure to keep strong energetic protection in place on January 7th and 8th. We may find ourselves in situations that point out where our boundaries need to be strengthened and/or softened. This is a great time to tap into the artistic, inspirational side of yourself. It’s perfect for creative projects because it opens the mind, encourages us to daydream, taps us into the imagination. If you need some energetic healing, this is a wonderful time for Reiki, or other energetic modalities.
On January 10th at 11:21am PST, we have the Full Moon Lunar eclipse at 20 degrees of Cancer. Lunar Eclipses are like super-charged Full Moon’s and this is the last one in the Cancer/Capricorn series. Whenever the Cancer/Capricorn axis is highlighted the need for balance between work and home is made apparent. For instance, if you are sending out intentions to expand yourself professionally, this will be rewarding, but also stressful and tiring. If you don’t schedule in time for yourself, your home, and your family then those areas of life will suffer. Ultimately, the extra success you gain professionally will not be as satisfying as you’d hoped. The older I get, the more I realize how true the old proverb – Moderation in all things. Life is about balance.
With the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in a water sign, we can expect that emotions will run high. This is very strong energy of release, culmination, forgiveness, and letting go. It’s a rather dramatic event and highlights the Saturn/Pluto conjunction that is drawing closer. Much of the energy connected to this will involve home, family, and our connection to our generational and karmic roots. There can be a lot that emerges about belonging, about community, and an understanding of where and with whom we feel safe. This Full Moon is occurring close to the North Node so it can bring alliances that will help us move forward on our destiny line. It’s the creation of tribe/family and genetics doesn’t really enter into it. One question for you – Do you feel safe and comfortable within your tribe? If the answer is yes, be grateful for the emotional security that you have. If this energy makes you aware that there is a lack in your life surrounding this issue, now is a good time to instigate a change.
Also, a reminder – Since this energy is an Eclipse it can bring disruption to plans or expectations. Be kind to yourself and others and stay flexible. Sometimes a change in plans can result in the best experience. This is a good time for rites of culmination or letting go. A great time for an Epsom salt/sea salt bath to help release toxins.
On Sunday, January 12th, fueled by the energy of the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse, we experience Saturn and Pluto coming together, joined by the Sun and Mercury all at 22 degrees of Capricorn. The Sun shines the spotlight on this event and Mercury adds a megaphone-like awareness. With Mercury, the planet of communication and sharing knowledge as a part of this line-up, it’s like we have an all-access backstage pass to a life-changing meeting between two super-powers.
No need to hide under the covers, just be aware of the undercurrents and the shifting foundation. There may be a major event or it may seem like any other day, but the decisions we make and the plans we craft during this time will have more significance. It’s likely we will all be spending time reflecting on our choices, thinking about whether we’ll make the same decisions as before when faced with the same circumstances.
Saturn and Pluto together are an energetic combination that we’ve all be dealing with for the last two years. It’s gotten a lot stronger over the last two months and this event in January will be the strongest that it gets. Whether we have realized it or not, during the last two years we’ve been in a process that has been asking us to take control, to learn how to set boundaries, and to make choices about who comes into our space and who gets set aside.
We can expect that our emotions will be stirred and possibly events will occur that put us into a pressure situation or put us under the microscope of other people’s critique. It is happening to help us make necessary choices and to really clarify our most important priorities for the long-term. It reminds us that we can’t do everything and that it’s important to focus on what is the most important for you. You may encounter situations where others are asking or even pressuring you to do something that takes you way off course. The strong Capricorn energy is encouraging us to get strong, to develop a backbone, and to stick to our plans. It’s about having the inner-strength to say ‘no’ to things that are not directly in line with what we want to accomplish.
Saturn is often about ‘old news’ so as these two planets draw together, we may find that we are revisiting issues and circumstances that haven’t been fully resolved. It’s about recognizing and dealing with ‘stuff’ that we’ve known has been a problem for a while and it’s likely that the true nature of a situation you’ve been dealing with will be revealed. This energy makes us stronger, gives us a spine of steel to support restructuring our lives so that we can use our personal power in a positive way.
For years, we’ve been dealing with out-of-date power structures and that becomes clear now. This is about clarity and confirmation. It’s about knowing why we are doing something and about having all the facts or information about the decision. You may be making agreements or finalizing a deal. There’s a cautious quality to this energy, so make sure the decision/choice you are making feels right and that all of the details have been checked and double-checked. Once made, or committed to, the Universe will conspire to keep you on track. This energy helps us understand the appropriate structures to use to accomplish what we desire and shows us the steps to take to get there. Don’t rush things, take your time and understand what you are committing to. This energy gives commitments staying power. It’s enduring and long-lasting.
Over the last two years we’ve all experienced many lessons in the right use of power. Questions come up about whether we are truly stepping into and using our own power or are we allowing others to make choices for us. When we accept our power, that requires that we be honest and tell the truth. At the very least, that can be a bit uncomfortable but that is what this Saturn/Pluto interaction is asking of each of us. Be honest with yourself first – what nourishes you? What depletes you? Where do you feel stuck, especially surrounding obligation and duty? With Saturn and Pluto, it’s important to learn from the past and use the wisdom we’ve gained to remind ourselves of the accomplishments we are proud and release any regret connected to things we did that we aren’t proud of.
This energy is asking you to pull apart the commitments and structures of your life to see how you can rebuild them in such a way that the 2020 version of YOU can be fulfilled. We have all been submitted to conditioning for eons. Now is the time to push back against that conditioning. This is a chance to remake ourselves in a way that is more relevant to who we are today.
As the conjunct pulls apart in the latter part of January and February, we may look back on this time and clearly see the before and the after.
On January 13th the intensity eases up a bit when Venus moves into Pisces. Venus is empowered in the sign of Pisces so this brings a wonderful energy of optimism, hope, and possibility. It’s very positive and stimulates our passions, highlights artistry and the artistic side of our nature. This will also stimulate the spiritual and intuitive side. It’s cosmic encouragement to make space in our lives for joy, inspiration, passion, and creativity.
On January 15th we have the best aspect of the month – Venus sextile Uranus. This is exciting, energizing, opening type of energy. It’s gentle and adds a breath of freshness to our lives. This will stimulate interactions with others, especially those close to you and brings an effervescence to relationships. Have fun, be spontaneous. Express affection and let others know that you’re grateful for them in your life.
Around the New Year there is always a lot of talk about making resolutions. In woo-woo speak, these are intentions that we want to manifest. The reality is that the ‘New Year’ is just a time construct that humans have created in order to put structure to our lives on planet Earth. As individuals, our New Year is actually tied to our Solar Return chart. This chart is cast for the time when the Sun returns to the exact location, by degree and minute, that it was at your birth. This happens around your birthday and is when your personal New Year starts. It is the most powerful time for each of us to conduct a review of what we accomplished and to make intentions for the year ahead. Where the focus of energy falls in this chart is where your intentions have the most strength.
That being said, making resolutions at the time of the global ‘New Year’ is important too. What we put out into the Universe as intentions feeds into the collective consciousness and can help to shift the focus for everyone. Over the last few months, I’ve been talking a lot about setting intentions, planning, thinking about what you want the rest of your life to look like. I’ve been trying to encourage you and make you aware that we all have control of our lives and can create what we want. This is especially true right now because with the Saturn/Pluto combination we are experiencing the full strength of the Magician’s Aspect – alchemy, manifestation, creating something out of nothing. What a wonderful privilege and opportunity this is. Let’s do something amazing with it.
