Full SuperMoon in Scorpio – May 7, 2020; 3:45 am PDT

May 2020 is a significant month with a lot of energetic shifts. Several important planets turn retrograde and the Nodal Axis shifts from Cancer/Capricorn into Gemini/Sagittarius. We’re already dealing with change to the world as we know it, this energy will solidify those changes and help us understand that it’s vital for us to move forward into the ‘new normal’.
Let’s talk about the retrogrades first. Whenever a planet becomes stationary and then turns retrograde, its symbolism is emphasized and internalized.
Pluto turned retrograde on April 25th at 24° Capricorn and will not move direct again until October 4th. In Evolutionary Astrology, Pluto represents the soul and its desire to evolve through experience. When turned inward, that evolving happens to us at the core. It realigns and reorients our deep-seated beliefs. It’s particularly important when Pluto is retrograde that we respond to power struggles with others in a personally empowering way rather than avoiding or suppressing issues.

Pluto turns retrograde every year, so this energy is not new to any of us, but Pluto retrograde this year promises to be extremely eventful because of its conjunction with Jupiter and because of the chaotic handling by world governments of the global pandemic that is upon us.
During Pluto’s retrograde period it will go back over the crucial 22° of Capricorn, where the Saturn/Pluto conjunction took place in January, and reactivate whatever was beginning then. Essentially, this was the onset of the pandemic and the resulting global lock down. Challenging Saturn/Pluto aspects are linked to hard times and ‘containment’ so this makes sense. And when Pluto goes back over this degree around the end of August and early November, those issues may come back strongly, as well as power and control being felt more intensely.
Pluto is closely linked to secrets and mysteries so the retrograde motion here can feel as if ‘the curtain is being lifted’ bringing secrets into the open. I would expect waves of disclosure through 2020 which are likely to change our beliefs about how the world operates. Pluto retrograde will make us more aware of issues of power. We may be thinking about governmental power, financial, psychological, emotional, sexual, and also how we have used or not used our own power effectively in our lives. It is important that we find our own center of power during this retrograde period, and that will make us feel much less like victims during the lock down.
Many of us will be feeling an existential fear now as Pluto is very connected to primal survival emotions. It’s important that we acknowledge these fears, then try to release them in the understanding that we are ‘all in this together’, and that change must happen in order to evolve.
Any personal and deeply held secrets are likely to come to the foreground now and be released if they no longer serve you. This retrograde is a period of ‘detoxing’, whether that is your own emotional system, your friends, your use of social media, or your close relationships (especially with Venus retrograde too). Pluto has a ‘purging’ effect in our lives.
The power that Pluto represents is best used altruistically, for the good of all. Those who have used their personal power to help other people will see the rewards during this retrograde period. Equally, those using it to increase their own power over others will be seen to fall, although that may not happen until the end of 2024.
There’s a strong correlation between when Saturn (the planet of contraction and limitation) moved into Aquarius (the sign of freedom and innovation) on March 22 and the occurrence of the global lock down. On May 11, when Saturn moves retrograde – stops forward motion – it makes sense that a lot of the lock down situation will begin to ease. In many states and countries, we will begin to see a relaxation of restrictions and that will continue through May and into June. Is it too soon??? Only time will tell.
Jupiter moves retrograde on May 14th at 27° Capricorn and goes direct on September 13th at 17° Capricorn. Jupiter will be conjunct Pluto off and on throughout 2020. Jupiter expands whatever it touches and in conjunction with Pluto this is a very powerful signature. In the natal chart this combination is known as the Millionaire’s Aspect and it can bring the ability to gain great wealth because people with this aspect are very resourceful. But … because Pluto is also linked to debt, default, and taxes, Jupiter’s expansion energy conjunct the powerhouse of Pluto could also bring a situation of global debt, many companies going out of business, and the prospect of a global economic contraction. If this happens it’s likely that we will all have to pay much higher taxes to make up for business and economies shutting down.
Excessive power – that’s the short definition of this combination and, in fact, we have seen many countries increasing their power over the population in order to enforce the lock down. A question that should be on everyone’s mind is – will all the laws passed to enhance governmental control be rolled back once life returns to the ‘new normal’.
The combination of Jupiter and Pluto also expands our awareness of spirituality. There are many people awakening. Unfortunately, this awakening comes through personal reality and beliefs being shattered, but in order to get through this we have to climb out of the matrix. The inciting event was the Saturn/Pluto conjunction in January 2020, and what we are experiencing is a collapse of the status quo – the old order.
Jupiter/Pluto conjunctions are associated with a crisis in belief. I can see this happening now and as secrets that have been long hidden come to light, they may be very shocking. There are certain institutions and social realities that we have all believed in our entire life. When these go away it is likely to accelerate the shift in consciousness. Suddenly (or gradually), we will be able to see the reality that IS not the false one that existed before.
Have you been having strange dreams? It seems that is occurring collectively. I’ve read many news stories that try to explain the phenomenon away as the brain trying to fill in the gaps now that we aren’t as busy and maybe that’s what it is. But … perhaps (I’m getting woo-woo here) we are being primed to receive collective messages that will eventually coalesce into something meaningful and helpful. I think as we go further into the year this will begin to happen. Maybe we’ll have our own Mother Abigail emerge from the ether. In the early 2000, there was a global experience of seeing the numbers 11:11. Numerous books and articles were written about the meaning of this and the experience and some continue to see number patterns on a daily basis. I believe we are on the verge of something similar with the ‘weird’ dreams everyone is having.
Venus turns retrograde on May 13th at 22° Gemini and will move direct again on June 25th at 5° Gemini. This puts her in Gemini for 4 months, an unusually long time. Venus in Gemini is very social and likes to get out and interact with others. Venus is also stylish and desires to present a beautiful appearance, especially when interacting with others. What is so interesting about this Venus retrograde period is that in order for us to get out and socialize, our faces will be largely covered by masks – hence our appearance will be dramatically altered. This is an amazingly literal expression of this Venus retrograde energy! I expect the mask making industry to flourish with everyone wanting masks that enhance or describe their unique personality. I would also expect there to be a lot of caution surrounding the idea of full interaction with others, and with so many planets gradually moving into Aquarius this year, there will continue to be some ‘social distancing’ taking place. Aquarius is social, but there is always an aloofness to it. It suggests more digital connection. Venus retrograde may bring an old partner back into your life, or you may feel that your current relationship has reached a natural ending or needs some communication work.
Venus retrograde always makes us rethink our financial situation, and our values. This energy gives us glimpses of what Uranus in Taurus (until 2026) will bring. For all of us our values will be changed radically over this period, but this particular Venus retrograde will make us think about what we really value in life. With this Great Pause we may find that there are parts of our lives that don’t resonate with the internal changes we are making inside.
Now let’s talk about the shifting Nodal Axis.
In evolutionary astrology, the Nodal Axis is known as the Destiny Line and in an individual’s chart, indicates the path the soul intended to take in this life time. From a global perspective, the shifting of the Nodal Axis from one sign to another shows a change in the path of humanity. For the last 18 months the Nodes have been in Cancer and Capricorn. The South Node in Capricorn is very strongly linked to governmental control of the population and the North Node in Cancer brings a karmic intention to nurture and provide security. This energy describes the inclination to put up with oppression in order to feel safe and secure. The lock down we are experiencing now is a manifestation of this energy. Government mandated orders to stay home in order to be safe.
On May 5th the Nodes shift into the signs of Gemini and Sagittarius and will stay there for 18 months. It takes about 18.6 years for the Nodes to transit the entire Zodiac so the last time the Nodes were in these signs was October 2001. That was right after the 9/11 disaster that permanently changed life in the United States and the regulations around flying. Sagittarius and Aquarius are the two signs that are strongly connected to flight and planes. During the Spanish Flu epidemic in 1918/1919, the Nodes were also in Gemini and Sagittarius.
Globally (and personally) this energy of Gemini and Sagittarius brings up issues of communication. What we’ve learned during the lock down is that communication can happen just fine remotely and that brick and mortar places of work don’t necessarily need to be a part of our lives. We can accomplish all we need to via video meetings and email.
Gemini and Sagittarius are air signs. We already have Saturn and Mars in Aquarius, also an air sign. In December 2020, Jupiter moves into Aquarius and conjuncts Saturn. That’s a lot of astro-speak to say that communication will be very important as we go forward into the New World. The last time Jupiter and Saturn were conjunct in an air sign was 600 years ago. With the North Node also moving into an air sign it’s very obvious that we’re moving into a new age. We are moving from a time (the last two hundred years) of earth signs – density, slowness, possessiveness – into a time when information, ideas, and communication will happen with lightning speed. It’s also about mobility – local and long-distance travel. The launch of the 5G network is strongly tied to this shift in energy.
Gemini and Sagittarius are also connected to learning and teaching so children and education will also be a major theme over the next 18 months. Schools and colleges are shut down. How do we navigate that? What will school look like in the future?
Flexibility and adaptability will also be required during the next 18 months. It’s always important to plan, especially if you run a business, have schedules, or are teaching others, but with this energy it’s important to realize that those plans may get tossed out the window as situations change. Don’t invest too heavily in accomplishing a certain thing by a certain time.
Sagittarius is about truth and Gemini is about information. Trigger aspects will cause us to wonder what is true and what is not. Maybe, with this energy, we can achieve another level of truth. There’s also a non-conformist energy that will emerge. It will feed into the theme of linking to others and push us back to basics and the willingness to rely on each other as a community. We are now being reminded of how important community is and that we are all in this together.
Since mutability – change is connected to these signs, it’s possible that the virus will mutate as they tend to do. But, it’s more likely that we as human beings will mutate, not only in developing antibodies and our own defenses against this virus, but by being much more flexible and versatile in our lives, and how we earn our incomes.
Another theme here is how we can bring spiritual wisdom to our daily lives. Many of us have had a spiritual practice for years, but now is the time when we really need to use it powerfully to not only keep strong through the lock down but to draw a better world into manifestation. We need to walk our talk now.
For those of you with your natal Nodes in the signs of Gemini and Sagittarius, these next 18 months will be very meaningful. You will have either a Nodal Return, which helps to get you onto your path for this life time, or a Reverse Nodal Return, which brings back issues from the past in order to deal with them or learn from them. Whichever happens for you, this time will be instrumental in how you move forward in your life.
On May 7th, at 3:45am PDT we have the third Full Super Moon in a row. Because a Full Moon is the peak of the Moon’s cycle, it is always a highly emotional time. They tend to bring feelings and situations to a head, but this one is not only the ‘crescendo’ of the three in the row, it is also in the intense water sign of Scorpio. This will make it particularly strong regarding completions and culminations of life situations. The Moon in Scorpio which feels so deeply and intensely is also extremely sensitive, and it is in trine to Neptune in Pisces which is enormously spiritual. This combination can bring the feeling of overwhelming compassion and unconditional love and allow these things to be expressed freely. This is also high energy for spiritual downloads and strong dreams. Pay attention to messages that come to you.
The Full Moon also shines a light what has been hidden. Scorpio is the sign of secrets, mysteries, manipulation, and betrayal. It likes to dig into the nitty gritty to get to the truth. Since Scorpio and its ruler, Pluto, correlate to sexuality and wealth, we can expect that secrets connected to these things could be revealed. These secrets will likely be related to illicit sexual behavior and salaciously earned wealth.
Venus in Gemini is in a challenging and very close relationship to Neptune in Pisces at the Full Moon. Gemini is about information and in this type of aspect to Neptune, information becomes unclear and unfocused. This can bring up situations of misunderstandings and information being released that isn’t true. False news is something we have learned to live with but sometimes it can be really well couched and appear to be genuine. It will be important to use our discernment with everything we see and hear to be able to pick through and pull out the pieces that are valid and true. This is especially true in our relationships. Don’t assume you know that what you hear is true – ask for clarification before making any leaps in judgment.
Venus and Neptune also bring us surges of spiritual awakening. There is a yearning for love in its highest form. Expect some wonderful downloads during the Full Moon but there may also be some information that is delivered that you don’t quite understand or can’t decipher. Capture it, but wait until after the energy clears to decipher it.
For the few days from May 12th to May 19th, the Sun interacts wonderfully with Jupiter and Pluto. These are some of the strongest manifesting days this month, so lay down intentions for prosperity and shoot them out into the Universe. It’s also a time when we will feel optimistic and aware that there are brighter days ahead. There will be an adventurous energy that goes with this, but remember that adventures come in all shapes and sizes. Just because we can’t take off to a foreign land, we can always satisfy that wanderlust with a foreign film or a walk in the woods.
Right now, many people are feeling fearful for their future. However, this period of ‘pause’ is a vital pivot point in the creation of our future. It cannot be emphasized enough! Imagine that you are in the chrysalis stage, spinning the beautiful butterfly you want to become. We know that we are co-creating our future all the time by the frequency we are broadcasting, this is measurable by magnetoencephalography; but we are not just creating our todays and tomorrows, we are creating something much greater and much longer term – our new future. This is an amazing and unique opportunity in the Earth’s history, use it wisely.
We know how collective meditations make a measurable difference to the Earth’s energy field. So, if we want to achieve more freedom in our lives we need to act in collaboration. This is about the power of the collective focusing their intentions and visualizations for a better world not only of freedom and high ideals, but also of love and joy. It is dependent on every single one of us to create the world we want. If we sink into fear, we will be pulling more experiences to be fearful of into our reality. So, it is vital to be very aware of where you are putting your focus and your energy as that is what will manifest in your life.
The next couple of months are vital in this regard. We are not victims, we are creators, and this powerful Full SuperMoon is a brilliant opportunity to leave the old behind and use the laser focus of Scorpio to create a wonderful new world for us all.
