Gemini New Moon – May 22, 2020; 10:38 am PDT

On May 12, 2020, Mars moved into the sign of Pisces and will be there for about six weeks. Mars moving from an air sign to a water sign brings a significant energy shift. It’s a change from action surrounding ideas and thoughts to emotions and feelings. With this shift we may feel the level of anxiety, fear, and worry lessen because we will be reacting from our hearts rather than our busy minds.

This is the first time in twelve weeks that we have Mars away from the influence of Saturn. The combination of these two planets is a strong contraction indicator and has been one of the major contributors to the unusual level of restriction and limitation that we’ve all been experiencing. Mars moving away from this configuration and into Pisces will not fix everything and make life go back to ‘normal’ because there are larger cycles in play, but it may show an easing of the restrictions. It will definitely change the astrological vibe we have all been feeling and our perception of the level of freedom we have will shift, even if we’re still in a lockdown situation.
Pisces is a hopeful sign and gives Mars a gentle quality. It diffuses the Mars assertiveness and brings out more compassion. From a personal perspective, this energy can give us a more positive and hopeful outlook. Mars is all about forward movement and initiating action. Pisces is a highly emotional and intuitive water sign. The result of this combination is that our moods will affect our motivation. Because it’s less practical and more fluid, we may feel that we’re riding waves that give us periods of high activity followed by a lull. Activities, energy, and confidence will all have an ebb and flow to them.
Where Pisces falls in your chart shows you the area of life where you can take charge, make decisions, and create forward progress right now. It’s been two years since Mars was in Pisces so this energy will be a welcome change to what we have been experiencing.
Venus stationed retrograde on May 13th at 21 degrees Gemini. This is an invitation to pause, reflect, and reassess especially in connection to relationships. This cycle lasts about six weeks and gives us the opportunity to reflect on circumstances in our close personal relationships; intimate, family, or professional. This happens about every 18 months, so the energy is not new but it is important to use this time to do an emotional inventory of how things are going in this area of your life. Venus retrograde in Gemini is about communication within relationship. It brings up questions like – Are you speaking clearly? Do you communicate from your heart? Are you speaking your truth? Are there ways you can listen better to those you are close to?
Where you have Gemini in your chart, you may experience some delays or a lack of clarity while Venus is retrograde. Allow yourself to be in a holding pattern around that area of life and don’t try to move things forward.
May 14th, Jupiter stations retrograde at 27 degrees Capricorn. Jupiter moved into Capricorn early December 2019 and has been moving rapidly through the sign. During that very short space of time, a lot has happened to the collective. Jupiter stopping its forward motion gives us all a chance to pause, catch our breath and reassess. Capricorn is the sign associated with big business and government and strongly represents truth, honesty, and justice. Sort of an oxymoron when you think of our current political situation. But, it’s likely that we will see revelations and changes in these areas during the Jupiter retrograde period. From a personal perspective, Jupiter retrograde encourages us to go deeper, to think more broadly, and to use the wisdom we have gained in our lives as a springboard for expansion and expanded awareness. There can be a major refocus with this energy shift so don’t be worried if your attention is taken from one project and moved to another. This is a time of reorientation.
On May 15 the Sun moves into a powerful and positive aspect with Pluto. This is an aspect about transformation, about shifting things, about finding a way to move something that has been stuck. It has a driven, determined, and focused quality. If a mountain looms in your life or something continually blocks your progress, this energy will help you figure out how to climb it or blow it up. Pluto is also about digging deep and diving into the nitty gritty to get in touch with the core of who we are. There’s a strength and resolve with this and it brings a sense of determination. It helps us step into the role of ‘leader’ in our lives so that we can see where we may be abdicating control or being manipulated.
Very shortly after the Sun interacts with Pluto, it moves into a beautiful aspect with Jupiter. This happens on May 17th and is one of the best aspects of the month. This energy is a blessing, a boon, and brings a welcome positive development of some kind. This can bring an opportunity to grow, to move forward, or something that comes into your life that is very beneficial. There’s a financial component to this which can bring a windfall or an opportunity for you to pay it forward to someone else. Pay attention to opportunities that come your way. This could be the chance of a lifetime.
On May 20th the Sun moves into Gemini and we become more movement oriented. This is very social energy and brings the desire to be much more engaged in the world. Under lockdown restrictions we may feel restlessness so use this energy to interact with others in any way available. This is a wonderful time to get together with others on-line or from a safe distance and talk, share ideas.
Also on May 20th, Venus makes her second square to Neptune. If any projects got stuck in early May when Venus made her first square to Neptune, then this energy breaks that up and you will now see forward movement. Because Neptune is involved, there can be confusion or the need to let go of something or someone – at least temporarily. You may have the sense that something is not quite right in your relationship or you may have difficulty focusing on the simple pleasures of life. It’s not a major situation, just a bump in the road. Our feelings are a bit tender when Venus is in a challenging aspect with Neptune so if you feel you need to distance yourself from another person or take a little break, now is the time to do it.
May 22nd is a very busy day astrologically. We have four aspects occurring plus the New Moon and most of the energy is in air signs. First off, we have the Sun making a positive aspect with Saturn. This is an aspect of stability and substance. It brings a grounded energy that helps us focus on things with depth. This is not an airy-fairy time, but has much more structure to it. This combination is also about responsibility, so you may delve into concepts like time management, or reviewing boundaries, and priorities. It’s a good time to do some planning about how to use your time over the next four weeks. This is also a good time to take care of any home repairs that need to be done. Make time to connect with the important people in your life, but don’t neglect your personal progress. There can be a nudge from the cosmos to step into a leadership role or take charge of something in your life. Feel free to confidently express your opinion.
Next, we have a New Moon at 2°04’ Gemini at 10:38am PDT. We have six planets in Mutable signs during this time; the Sun, Moon, Mercury, and Venus in Gemini, and Mars and Neptune in Pisces. Added to that, the transiting Nodal Axis has moved into the Mutable signs of Gemini and Sagittarius. Mutability has very positive implications for our ability to adapt. Gemini has the potential to be ‘jack of all trades’, to know a little about a wide variety of things. It emphasizes communication on-line, and how important it is to use that to get a greater sense of our collective power. Pisces connects us with Spirit and asks us to pay attention to intuitive downloads which will guide us as we navigate the Gemini season.
The Gemini area of your life is where you can have a reset or make a fresh start. Is there anything connected to communication and how you interact with those close to you that you would like to update. Think of ways to strengthen your connections. Share messages of affection and gratitude.
At the New Moon time, we have Mercury interacting with Venus. This is an aspect of coming together. It asks us to reach out from a place of generosity to help others who are a bit confused or sad. This is also a very creative and artistic time. If you are working on a creative project you can expect to be able to move that forward easily with this energy. In general, there is a relaxed, fun, lighthearted feeling with this energy. Try to spend the time doing something that brings you joy.
Even though the New Moon is a wonderful time to initiate new projects and activities in your life, this New Moon is accompanied by a Mercury/Neptune square. This tends to bring the feeling of being overwhelmed or having too much on your plate. Neptune muddies the mental clarity of Mercury. Because of that, it would be best to wait 24 hours after the New Moon to start whatever you have planned. Mercury will be interacting with Neptune in this manner from May 20th to the 24th so during this time be aware of intuitive nudges and downloads that you get. They will be particularly strong now.
Mars in Pisces in a challenging relationship to the New Moon can bring unclear communication and misunderstandings. If you are initiating a new project, be very clear about what you are trying to achieve. Check and double-check your facts and do your due diligence. This continues the theme of ‘what is true and what is not’, part of the Nodal Axis in Gemini and Sagittarius. However, if you are expressing yourself at a high spiritual level for the greater good, this can work beautifully for you. It can become ‘divine communication of unconditional love’, and will be wonderful for organizing group experiences and working with your tribe.
With six planets in Mutable signs and five planets in Air, it’s likely we’ll feel some nervous tension. Gemini needs a huge variety of mental input, and Aquarius ruled by Uranus can produce a frazzled, high octave buzzy nervousness, especially since there is no clarity on what is unfolding around us. With so many planets in Air and Mutable signs, it may feel like there is an overwhelming amount of information coming at you. Make sure you take time to ground in nature, bare feet on the Earth, as often as you can, and this will help you get out of your head and into your heart and body.
On May 25th Mars in Pisces interacts with Uranus in Taurus. This is an aspect of activation and energy. There’s a proactive and fast-paced quality to this combination that can really light a fire under us and get us going. It can be inspiring, but also unpredictable so try to stay flexible. But if you get inspired by this energy let yourself run with it. It’s a day for instinctive choices so if you are faced with decisions, make them on the fly. With this energy you’re in the ‘flow’ and acting from a very authentic place within yourself.
May 28th Mercury merges with the North Node in its new sign. Since the North Node has just moved into the sign of Gemini and Mercury rules that sign it’s important to pay attention to information, interactions, encounters, and ideas that come forward for you. These things are clues to areas of your life where you are ready to move forward. Mercury is helping the North Node express what it wants to communicate and the North Node guides us on our soul path. Downloads during this time either confirm that you’re on the right path or make you aware of adjustments that need to be made. This is an excellent time for planning, scheduling, signing documents, and making commitments.
Over the last ten days of May, we have an extra emphasis on the element of air. Air is about learning, teaching, sharing ideas, discussion. All the air signs represent unique features of being human. Intelligence, communication, relationship, and bonding. On-line learning has really exploded lately in part because we are all staying home and need distraction, but as we move further into Gemini an intense hunger for ideas, information, and expanding of our knowledge base can take hold. Gemini is immensely curious and we satisfy that curiosity through learning. If you’ve been thinking about taking a class, or teaching one, now is the time.
