Cancer New Moon – July 20, 2020; 10:32 am PDT

The New Moon on July 20th is at 10:32 am PDT and falls at 28 degrees of Cancer. This is our first lunation in four weeks that is not an eclipse so we now have the potential for things to stabilize. This is the second New Moon in the sign of Cancer. The first was on June 21st and was a very dramatic Solar Eclipse. This New Moon will be much more mellow and if issues came up around the June New Moon then now you will have a second chance to resolve or revisit those issues, but in a more calm and manageable way.

This New Moon is directly opposite Saturn in Capricorn which is still closely combined with Pluto and Jupiter. This is about clarifying your identity, getting back to the core of who you are, and identifying or remembering the things that are most important to you. That can be a person, a project, or a priority. The Sun opposite Saturn is about consolidating and not going after several things willy-nilly. It’s about quality and picking one or two projects that are the most meaningful to you and putting your best energy toward them. This means that it may be important to say no, to stay away, or to decline whatever comes into your sphere of influence. We can’t do it all and have to say no to some things. This energy will help you be clear on your limits and what to let go of.
Two great words for Saturn are rejection and exclusion. They have a bit of a negative connotation but they also are representative of us making choices and being aware of what we need to reject in our lives. For example, we may exclude television in the evenings in order to read or work on a creative project. This is using exclusion in a positive way. Making necessary choices about managing your time, resources, and money. That will be a huge theme with this New Moon.
The New Moon always represents a reset or a new start where you can look to the future, plant seeds, and use intention to draw to you what you desire. Because this New Moon opposes Saturn it highlights both the old and the new and brings the feeling that something needs to be completed before you can move forward. Or there may be a matter from the past that needs to be attended to before forward movement can happen. There can also be a sense of caution or hesitancy about starting new things around this New Moon. If that’s the case for you, give it a few days and the energy will clear.
This New Moon is in the sign of Cancer which represents home, family, and the feeling of emotional security. Spending time with family or dealing with generational issues is a good use of this energy. If you are dreaming of a new home or thinking of making changes to your existing home, this is an excellent time to lay down intentions for whatever you want to create. Cancer is very much about interacting with others with compassion and empathy. If we can do that, our hearts may be more open and we may find that there is less polarity in our society.
From July 21st to August 5th, expansive Jupiter receives challenging aspects from both Saturn and Mars. This puts Jupiter in a pressured, squeezed down position. This same interaction occurred from mid-February to late March of this year and we experienced Jupiterian themes such as travel, education, justice, and the law being adversely affected. With Jupiter in a similar configuration we may expect some contraction during this time as well. The good news is that this is a much shorter time frame than the one earlier in the year.
On July 22nd the Sun moves into Leo. Leo is a fixed sign and so brings stability into the energetic mix. This will be a very welcome change after the strong instability we have been dealing with since January. Solid ground – finally! This is an excellent position for the Sun and will help us all regain our footing.
This has the potential to highlight quality where leadership is concerned so we may see some improvement in the governmental decisions being made. This also activates the leader in each of us. This energy encourages us to take charge and set the course for our lives. This is also an invitation to find new ways to shine your light in the world. Don’t shy away from opportunities to take charge or step into the spotlight.
The Sun is a beneficial planet that represents our vital life force and in Leo that life force is easier for us to access. At this time the Sun is now off axis to Jupiter and Saturn so it is not making any aspects to these planets and is able to operate without interference. That helps us use the strength of the Sun to the fullest. If you are thinking of moving something forward, now is the time.
On July 22nd, Mercury makes the third of three sextiles to Uranus. The others occurred on June 5th and June 30th. This combination is about fresh ideas, innovation, and being educated in new ways. It’s an aspect of invention, and creativity. This is like electricity in your mind that innervates you and stimulates your intellect. Watch for aha moments and revealing dreams. Your intuition will be stimulated so pay attention to it. You can gain access to new information or have insights that radically change your point of view.
Even though Uranus is exciting, it’s also volatile and unstable. Because of this, it can bring in something unexpected. Stay flexible and be open to new things in order to get the most out of this energy. It’s also great for technology if you need to purchase new gadgets or computers.
Monday, July 27th, Jupiter in Capricorn makes a nice aspect to Neptune in Pisces. This is one of the signature events of 2020 and will happen three times this year. It already occurred in February but the gentleness of the aspect was overshadowed by the intense energy that faced us that month. It will happen again in October. Both Jupiter and Neptune have generous energy. They are compassionate and humanitarian. Jupiter in Capricorn describes bedrock beliefs and shows the foundation of the way you live your life and the way society operates. With Jupiter interacting with Neptune there will be some questioning about those beliefs. Why do you believe the way you do? Is it still true for you? Is it your belief or that of another that you have adopted? With Jupiter and Neptune there is the sense of a shifting foundation, a softening of something that is entrenched, and the idea of letting go of something that is outdated. Key words for this combination are compassion and healing. This is a highly spiritual and creative time. At a collective level there can be an emotional connection that can lead to healing and an out-pouring of generosity at a material level.
On the same day, Venus interacts with Neptune in the third of three involvements. This energy echoes back to May so can bring a situation revealed then back to the forefront. This gives us the opportunity to revisit something that occurred then and resolve it. Venus in this aspect to Neptune can bring deception and disillusion, an uncertainty about what’s real and what’s fake. Keep your wits about you. You may be in a very humanitarian and giving place and that’s wonderful, but remember that trying to help someone who doesn’t really want to be helped is fruitless and frustrating. Don’t allow yourself to be drawn into or stay in a martyr/victim situation and be aware that you may be susceptible to being taken advantage of. There can be a fairy tale-like veneer with Venus and Neptune and when the energy clears you realize that things are not as they seemed. Keep your rose-colored glasses in their case and pay close attention to your relationships and financial situation. Don’t rush into anything, time = clarity.
July 27th, Mercury (now direct) squares Mars in Aries. Heated and direct conversation is the result of this energy. There’s an argumentative quality here but it also asks us to speak our truth, to participate in difficult but necessary conversations, and to express our emotions. If you are threatened by direct conversation or find it hard to speak up, you may find this aspect uncomfortable. But if you’re willing to step forward, this energy will help you get issues out into the open, to talk about problematic topics, and clear the air about situations that have lingered. It’s emotions in action but … pick your battles. If something comes up that is really important to you, defend yourself, but also be aware that this energy tends to stir things up and that thing that is said can never be taken back.
July 30th, Mercury makes two aspects that are important to understand. Mercury is now moving through the sign of Cancer. This is an emotional water sign. On this day Mercury will oppose Jupiter and trine Neptune. These interactions all happen at the same degrees and activate all three planets simultaneously. This is a very special pattern called an ‘easy opposition.’ Mercury connects Jupiter and Neptune and this energy brings the potential for information about changing beliefs, both personally and collectively. There can be a big shift in ideologies which is a major theme of 2020. This energy will be great for intuitive downloads and creativity, along with compassionate thinking and speaking. Any sort of therapeutic experience will be amplified and successful under this energy. There is the potential for healing conversations that will point to resolution or a solution. There is also a general quality of kindness and consideration with this energy. When Mercury and Jupiter combine their energy, it brings a ‘dream big’ desire and with Neptune involved this enhances the imagination and all things woo-woo. There will be a strong daydream/imaginative quality to this pattern. This energy is not very grounded and there is the potential for over-committing to things because of being swept up in the dream, so be a bit cautious about that. But, overall, this is a lovely way to complete the month. Broader thinking, greater visions, and a coming together is the prize for 2020. Let’s all put our focus on that. — Beth Lauderdale ~ Evolutionary Astrology
