Virgo New Moon – September 17, 2020; 4:00 am PDT
On September 14th we have an aspect of power and intensity. This is the Sun and Pluto getting together in a positive way. It’s all about depth and investigating, getting to the bottom of things. It’s also about discovering something about yourself, something deep and authentic that you don’t often acknowledge. Trust your power during this time. This combination is very positive but can be a bit uncomfortable if you’re used to letting others take the reins in your life. There’s a strong quality of leadership and finding the inner strength to take a stand or claim something that is yours. It’s about shifting from a place where you feel controlled to feeling empowered. With Pluto influences we always have to go down into the nitty gritty and combined with the Sun we are rewarded by retrieving something valuable that can give you clarification around your behavior and motivations or the behavior and motivations of another.

Venus in Leo squares Uranus in Taurus on September 15th. This is an aspect of excitement and agitation. Things will get stirred up. If anything has been stagnant in your life, you can expect movement to begin now. It can also be an extremely busy time that feels like everything is happening at once. There’s also a strong theme relating to the feminine archetype and how it is honored and expressed in our society. It may act as an impetus for individuals, regardless of gender, to display or share their take on femininity, desire, affection, and their idea of beauty and style and not worry about what others think. The undertone of this energy is about freedom and authenticity; it encourages us to break frees from the status quo.
September 17th at 4:00 am PDT we have the New Moon at 25 degrees Virgo. This is a fresh start that focuses on details. This is an excellent time to start a new routine, schedule, or ritual that is specific to the house where Virgo falls for you. We only get one Virgo New Moon a year, so this is the only opportunity you have to move these concepts forward. Spring cleaning, organizing, decluttering – those are the key words connected to this New Moon. What needs to be cleaned out – purged – physically, emotionally, spiritually. Beginning a new eating and/or exercise plan is another excellent way to use this energy.
On the same day, and influencing the New Moon energy, Mercury (the ruler of Virgo) makes a square aspect to Jupiter. This is about big picture planning and organizing, but also getting in touch with faith, wisdom, or a perspective. In this interaction, Mercury acts as a spokesperson for Jupiter and helps the planet reveal information that has been brewing below the surface. During this time, there may be some big headlines or revelations that come out, but at a personal level this is your chance to clarify your ‘why’ or remind you about the deeper purpose or wider reason you’re doing something. Conversations are likely to be conceptual and ‘brain-storming’, or inspiring. If you are grappling with data that conflicts with a belief, you may get clarity surrounding the situation. There can also be an overabundance of data that you have to sort through or several decisions that need to be made. Use discernment during this time and don’t say ‘yes’ to everything. This energy can encourage you to spread yourself to thin and that won’t have a good result. There can be some unsureness related to decisions at the beginning, but this energy combines hope and practicality so, ultimately, the right direction will become clear and a decision can be made. This is a great aspect for learning, teaching, and having inspiring conversations.
Also on September 17th, we have the Sun in Virgo making a trine aspect to Saturn in Capricorn. This energy helps us to see that pieces are falling into place. This combination is about strength, responsibility, and resilience. It’s also a deeply clarifying aspect that will help you understand truths and exactly what is going on in any situation. This will help us step into our own strength and honor what feels right to us even if someone else may be disappointed by our choices.
September 21st, Mercury will square Pluto. This is very investigative. It’s about asking probing questions and digging into the details. It will help you get to the bottom of something, solve a problem, or figure out a mystery. It’s also strongly about fact-checking before you make a decision. Mercury wants depth and truth and is willing to have some uncomfortable and deep conversations to get to whatever is needed. This combination is sometimes described as ‘truth serum’ so it’s possible that things will come out of the woodwork or secrets will be revealed.
The Sun moves out of the very practical Earth sign, Virgo, into the Air sign, Libra, on September 22nd. This creates the Fall Equinox. Elementally, there’s a shift from a productive vibe, to an energy that is more interactional and about connecting with others, taking time to share ideas, and collaborating. The Equinox is about balancing day and night at a physical or experiential level and it calls us to create a balancing or harmonizing experience emotionally and energetically. It doesn’t mean that everything in our lives must be perfectly in balance, but it does give us the opportunity to consider where things are out of balance or where we are going to extremes. Consider if there is a way to create harmony, equality, or an equal give and take energy in your life.
With the significant shift of the Sun into Libra, we can now see the finish line for 2020. I’m sure we all appreciate the significance of that and can breathe a tentative sigh of relief, but we still have to navigate the last three months of a very intense year.
On September 23rd and 24th Mercury squares Saturn, then opposes Mars. This is a very difficult place for Mercury. In astrology this is known as a besiegement. It means that Mercury is moving through two difficult planets. This energy brings a reality check. A piece of information is revealed that might be difficult to digest or you may be handed a decision that you don’t like. You may get caught in a challenging mental loop or stuck in a conversation that you can’t find a way through. There may also be delays that you can’t do anything about.
This situation also has a melancholy ‘stuck’ quality. If you do find yourself feeling a bit down or blue during these days, it’s important to pay attention to your mind set and mood in order to alleviate the emotions. This feeling will only last a few days, so hang in there and occupy yourself with a fun and creative project, or spend time in nature.
This is also about diligence and details and complying with standards that you might not agree with. There can also be a feedback or criticism component to the energy. The feedback and/or criticism are being provided in order to help you see your way through a situation but it may not feel that way initially. Having an uncomfortable but honest conversation is quite common with this energy.
Mercury opposite Mars is over-stimulating for the mind. That can create some anxiety and worry. There can also be assertive or aggressive speech, rashness or poor thought out decision making, and impulsiveness. This energy can be very volatile and you may be tempted to react in the heat of the moment. Give yourself space to deal with anything that arises, but don’t be pressured into reacting. If you can, put off making any decisions until this energy has passed. Agreeing to disagree and address the issue another time. If you come back to it in 36 hours, you’ll find the situation much easier to negotiate.
September 27th Mercury moves into the sign of Scorpio. It will spend an extended period of time there because of its next retrograde period. Mercury in Scorpio is willing to talk about deep subjects, to investigate, and to sort out things that might be hard to get your hands around. Mercury in any of the water signs (like Scorpio) has a therapeutic quality allowing us to get in touch with our emotions and unconscious behavior patterns and be able to talk about them. This is a great time for any healing modalities because the wounds are closer to the surface.
On September 28th Venus trines retrograde Mars. This is an aspect of connection and collaboration. There can be kindling passion that leads to connection with someone. Taking the initiative now can lead to a positive encounter.
Mars and Saturn interact for the second time on September 29th.This energy has a slow, stuck quality to it. You may experience some delays or feel frustrated with the lack of movement. The good news about this situation is that both of these planets are moving away from each other and they won’t interact again for months. So, while we have felt the pressure of this combination for the last six weeks, that will be behind us soon and the tension will ease up. Each day as we move forward from there, we will feel more confident, experience more progress, and have fewer blocks and frustrations in our lives.
Saturn is stationing direct and over the next few months complete its three-year term in Capricorn. The next few months represent the culmination of events, personally and collectively, that began when Saturn entered Capricorn in December of 2017. Use this final energy to complete any projects that were started and shoved to the sidelines during this time. Once we move into the new year, it’s best to not have any old work dragging you down.
