Full Moon in Aries – October 1st, 2020; 2:05 pm PDT
October moves us into the most intense weeks of the year. Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto in Capricorn continue their, once in 735 years merger, spotlighting the chinks in the structures of our governing bodies and societies. The purging of toxicity that has been manifesting all year will increase in order to ultimately facilitate a full transformation. If we choose to avoid the angry polarity, detach from the drama, and instead, stay grounded and embrace the energy of love and unity, we can emerge in 2021 into a much better place. Like birth, this is not a comfortable process, but the end result is magical. 2020 has been called the year of ‘Perfect Vision’ which I believe is a very accurate description of what we are experiencing. Seeing perfectly doesn’t necessarily mean that you like what you see, only that it is clear to you. More uplifting and empowering is the numerology code of 2020 that has been offered to us – there is infinite potential when we work together! Can we set aside our differences to create a better world?

On September 29th, Mars and Saturn interact for the second time. The energy of both these planets is amplified right now because they are in their own signs. Added to the challenge that this combination typically characterizes, Saturn stations direct (stops its retrograde movement in preparation for moving forward again) and whenever a planet is in this process its symbolism is felt more strongly.
Saturn in Capricorn represents regulations, rules, laws, government, the ‘Powers That Be’, and the status quo. It has a slow, ponderous, stuck quality to it. In contrast, Mars, especially in Aries, is very fast and forward moving, impatient, impulsive, and wants to fulfill its own desires without regard to what others think or do. It also strongly represents autonomy and the rights of the individual. The challenging combination of these two energies feels like driving with the brakes on or hitting a wall and beating against it in frustration. This experience is setting us up for what will be seen and felt in October and November.
The Full Moon at 9 degrees of Aries that occurs on October 1st at 2:05 pm PDT is actually the first of two Full Moon’s this month. The second will be a Blue Moon in Taurus on October 31st. Full Moons are times when emotions come to a head. In Aries this can produce two different types of energy; assertiveness – which can be very productive, or anger – which often leads to poor decision-making and/or conflict.
The Moon is tightly conjunct Chiron at the time of the lunation. In our personal natal charts, Chiron, The Wounded Healer, represents wounding that we are all born with. It’s a weakness that our soul intends for us to transform into a strength. Those folks born with Chiron in Aries often have difficulty going after what they desire. They may feel that their needs are not as important as others, and sometimes even wonder if they have a right to exist. There can be a lot of despair whenever they try to accomplish something or reach for a dream. But, one of their soul’s intentions in this lifetime is to take the feelings of frustration and resignation and move forward despite the anxiety and the obstacles; to ultimately accept a leadership role and help others accomplish what they desire.
The Sun shines fully on this Chiron wound during the Full Moon and brings this suppressed pain closer to the surface. Yes, it may be painful, but if you can look at this as an opportunity to tackle the old wounds with honesty and integrity, you can purge the old gunk and move forward without the anchor.
When Chiron is transiting in Aries it stimulates questions for all of us regarding our desires and our rights. Do I exist? Am I seen? Do I have the right to go after what I want? This highlights the issue of individual rights and we are seeing that strongly represented in global events and the media right now.
At the Full Moon, Uranus is also in an aspect to the Sun that can bring impulsive behavior and heated actions/reactions. If you can temper the tendency to respond negatively to something that frustrates you, this energy can bring a wonderful innovative idea that precipitates a breakthrough. If you are confronted with a challenging situation, try to step away for a couple of days while this energy clears. You will have a much better chance of making choices that are in your own best interest without alienating those around you. Uranus combined with the lunation can also bring some surprising news or something significant being revealed to us.
Mars moved into Aries on June 27th and turned retrograde on September 8th. It will resume forward movement November 13th. This transit of Mars through Aries and its aspects to various other planets is one of the defining cycles of the second half of 2020.
Mars is hot energy which is activating, or aggravating, and in reasonable amounts can give confidence, courage, prompt action, and instigate a decision. On the positive side, Mars helps us clarify and focus our energy and attention. It clears up the thinking process – no more wishy-washy uncertainty. It helps us channel our energy into a cause or project and makes it easier to focus on a specific goal. It can also help clarify a problem that’s been bugging you or help you see the reality of a situation in which you are immersed.
However, Mars in its own sign of Aries is an extreme expression of the planet’s energy and this can bring the more negative side of this energy to the foreground. This results in confrontation, aggression, violence, impulsive behavior, and intolerance. One way this energy has manifested is through the fires that burned so intensely on the west coast of the United States and the riots and protests that are occurring in a lot of major cities. This Mars energy will be the most intense on October 6th.
On October 4th, Pluto stations direct and we have three powerful planets; Jupiter, Saturn, Pluto all changing direction in just a few days’ time. As I said, when a planet stations (stops movement) its energy is amplified. With Pluto’s shift in direction we can expect issues related to power coming into our lives. This can manifest as power struggles, personally and globally, obvious situations that highlight the right or wrong use of power, and even power surges or outages.
Exact on October 9th, Pluto squares retrograde Mars – again! Typically, these guys come into a square aspect once a year, but in 2020 we experience this alignment three times. Like many events in 2020, this feels like the Universe telling us that it’s time to pay attention to what’s happening around us. The first alignment occurred on August 13th, the second is this one on October 9th, and the third will occur in December. The three interactions work together as sort of a beginning, middle, and end to a story.
Wherever you run into power and control issues in your life, this will be highlighted now. Mars and Pluto are similar energy, both based in power, but Mars is a lower octave of vibration. The combination is very volatile when looked at from the Mars perspective. If we focus on Pluto and the higher – more spiritual energy that it represents, then this can be a time when amazing transformation can occur. Think about what happened in your life around August 13th. That was the beginning of an unfolding story. You’re likely in the middle of it now, the peak of the storyline, with the ending still unknown – perhaps a mystery for you to solve or something you need to learn. Pay attention! There’s something extremely important happening and you have the ability to manifest the outcome you desire.
On October 13th, Mercury moves into its retrograde period and that lasts until the morning of November 3, election day here in the US. One of the reasons that the October 13th date is so important is that on the same day, the hot retrograde Mars will be combining its energy in a wide but challenging T-square aspect with the Sun, Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto. Expect the next couple of days to be fairly intense.
When Mercury is retrograde challenges arise with communication of all types. This is not the best time to initiate a project, sign a contract, or purchase electronics. It is the perfect time to review, revise, and revamp whatever you have initiated earlier. This Mercury retrograde will be in Scorpio, the sign ruled by power planet, Pluto. It’s likely that there will be issues around power and control, buried emotions, and situations that reveal the shadow side of life. The fact that this energy occurs around this time strongly suggests that the US election results will be unclear until November 19th when Mercury returns to 12 degrees of Scorpio, the degree at which it turned retrograde. There is some chatter among astrologers that because of the current and pending astrological configurations and how they impact the various presidential and vice-presidential candidates that the election results won’t be fully determined until January 2021.
Moving into these next months, the astrological energy suggests that we should be prepared for whatever is thrown our way. Keep an open mind and heart, try to detach from the chaos of the media, and if we can vibrate with the higher octave energy of love, we can all get through this together.
